Newcastle Injection Training, March 2026

Nearly 50 people affected by adrenal insufficiency attended an ADSHG emergency injection training event near Newcastle, delivered in partnership with Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust. Led by Jane Craig and Joanne Wardle, the session combined Sick Day Rules education, hands-on injection training and peer support to help attendees feel more confident and prepared.

Liquid Hydrocortisone (hydrocortisone sodium phosphate): Shortages & Discontinuation

Advanz Pharma has confirmed the permanent discontinuation of liquid hydrocortisone (hydrocortisone sodium phosphate), for the prevention and treatment of adrenal crisis. Whilst this news is concerning, hydrocortisone sodium succinate (powder) is an effective alternative and support, training and guidance are in place to help build confidence in emergency injection preparation.

Prescription of essential steroid medication

Many people with adrenal insufficiency, including Addison's disease, are still receiving only one-month supplies of essential steroid medication, creating challenges for self-management and patient safety. Explore the ADSHG's survey findings and access practical resources to help you work with your healthcare team to secure a three-month prescription.

Advanz Pharma: Problem with Splitting Hydrocortisone Tablets

For many people living with Addison's disease and adrenal insufficiency, achieving the right hydrocortisone dose can be a delicate balancing act. When lower doses are needed, patients are often advised to split tablets, but this can present practical challenges, including difficulties achieving accurate dosing and concerns about consistency.
