Working together towards our vision

The charity sector is not like other sectors, and the UK is one of just a few countries where a board of volunteer Trustees govern and give strategic direction to an operational team.  Both challenges and rewards come from working in an environment where teamwork is not a 'nice to have' but is essential, and where that 'team' encompasses staff, trustees, other volunteers, third-party suppliers and healthcare professionals.

At the ADSHG, we are proud of our 'small but mighty' status, achieved thanks to the engagement, hard work and passion of everyone in our team.

Our staff

Led by Director, Cathy Thompson, the dynamic and hard working staffing team pull together to fund and deliver clinically reviewed information to a growing and supported adrenal insufficiency community.

Our trustees

Living with, or affected by Addison's or another form of adrenal insufficiency, our experienced trustee board, chaired by Dominic Hargreaves, MBE,are here to govern the charity and steer it to meet its strategic goals

Our founder

Deana Kenward, founder of the ADSHG, first began bringing people with Addison's disease together to share information and support each other in 1984. She grew the charity exponentially and continues to maintain her links with the charity today.

Our clinical advisory panel

Our panel of endocrine healthcare professionals is led by Professor John Wass. His, and the credentials of the other members of our panel are far too long to mention here. Suffice to say, we are so grateful to have input from some of the most experienced adrenal experts in the world.

Our volunters

The ADSHG is fortunate to have the support of a skilled and dedicated team of volunteers to help both behind the scenes and at events and conferences. With such a small staff team, we literally couldn't do what we do without them.

The Deana Kenward Award

Since 2024, we have annually presented the Deana Kenward Award for Special Contribution to the charity to someone who has gone 'over and above' with their support for the adrenal insufficiency community and the ADSHG.
