Deana Kenward Award

Each year, since 2024, the ADSHG has recognised the special contribution of a particular individual to the charity.

Whether a volunteer, a member, a donor, or a member of staff, the award criteria is simply that, through their input, engagement, passion or energy, they have made a significant contribution to the charity and the wider Addison's and adrenal insufficiency community.

We recognise these incredible individuals below.

Noel Hawks, 2026

Presenting Noel with this award is just a tiny token of our appreciation for his outstanding efforts over more than two decades since he first joined the ADSHG in the early days of the charity. His contributions have been immeasurable, including support with operations behind the scenes, attendance at countless medical conferences, representing the charity, and support to individual members and the team.

He has developed warm and enduring relationships with healthcare professionals, significantly raising their awareness of the realities of living with Addison's disease. He has earned true legendary status!

Philippa Sharman, 2025

Philippa started her journey with the ADSHG as a volunteer, building the social media accounts for over 6 years. She was diagnosed with Addison's in her teens and was inspired by engaging with and learning from the community. She formally joined the ADSHG staff team in 2020, just in time for the 'crazy years of Covid-19', and holds the role of Communications and Health Liaison Manager.

She has developed long-standing relationships with members, healthcare professionals and the staff and volunteer team and gives so much of herself to her role. At times when the charity has been low on resources (bums on seats!) she has worked tirelessly to continue to offer the supportive services and approved information that the charity is known for. Thank you for putting so much of your energy and passion into your role, Philippa, and for the extra thoughtful attention you give to everything you do!

Alison Mainwairing, 2024

Awarded the inaugural Deana Kenward Award in 2024, Alison is quite simply one of the foundations of the charity. As a long-standing volunteer, she has helped over the years in countless ways: at member events, medical conferences and on an almost daily basis, she answers enquiries from our community.

Living with Addison's disease herself, she brings the perfect balance of knowledge and empathy to her role and is a pleasure to work with as an integral and exceptionally thoughtful member of our team. 'Ask Alison' is now a regular feature of our bi-annual magazines, where we print an answer to the most common queries that Alison receives.
