Why 29 May?
Addison’s Disease Day is held on the birthday of John F. Kennedy, the 35th US President who managed his Addison's disease and other autoimmune conditions in secret.
At the age of 30, while a US Congressman, JFK was secretly diagnosed with Addison’s whilst in London.
His complicated medical history was only revealed to the public years after his death. As arguably the most well-known public figure with Addison's, John F Kennedy’s birthday is a fitting date for us to raise awareness.
Awareness Stands
Using our Awareness Day and working with endocrine nurses and healthcare professionals (HCP)across the UK, we can make some noise, grab peoples' attention and importantly provide resources to educate others on this rare condition and the needs of a steroid dependent person.

Addison's Afternoon Teas
Bring our community together on Addison's Disease Day!
Every year we ask people to host an Addison's Afternoon Tea in the month of May. It's an opportunity to chat through the reality of living with a rare condition with friends, family or colleagues, or simply coming together for an afternoon with people who understand, it is a way to mark Addison's Disease Day and support each other.

Know the signs. Save a life.
We want to educate the public and healthcare professionals on the Sick Day Rules or “updosing” - when people with Addison’s disease and adrenal insufficiency increase their cortisol medication when unwell to prevent adrenal crisis.
By increasing awareness of low cortisol signs and educating healthcare professionals, we can improve quality of life and ultimately save lives.

Together
To mark our 40th anniversary as a charity, our theme is #StrongerTogether, showing what we can achieve when we unite and work together, demonstrating the power of people and their support for one another.
Together we have educated medical professionals around the world, influenced NHS decision-making and funded breakthrough research - all whilst supporting everyone affected by Addison's and adrenal insufficiency.
